Here’s a quick solution to these challenges, along with three actionable strategies to simplify choices for the busy manager and reduce stressful isolation that can come with leadership.

Creating a network of peer managers is one of the most effective ways to combat isolation and streamline decision-making. By surrounding yourself with like-minded leaders who share your unique challenges, you gain access to new perspectives, fresh ideas, and a trusted sounding board for decisions.

3 Steps to Beat Leadership Isolation and Decision Burnout 

  1. Regularly Connect with Peer Managers
    Form a network of fellow managers, whether through scheduled meetings or an online community. By connecting with others who face similar challenges, you can share insights, ask for advice, and gain creative solutions to complex situations you may not have considered.  Regularly meeting with peers also creates accountability and a space for genuine conversation. 
  1. Practice Decision Delegation
    Decision burnout often comes from handling a high volume of choices, many of which are minor. Identify low-stake decisions that can be shared or delegated. Involve trusted team members in the areas that align with their expertise.  Systemize smaller decisions by setting specific standards for recurring tasks and creating automated workflows for repetitive processes. You can then reserve your energy for bigger, more wide-reaching decisions while at the same time developing your team. 
  1. Adopt “Structured Reflection Time”
    Set aside time each week to mentally recent decisions. Use this time to review decision consequences, identify any patterns, and plan your upcoming priorities. Include a pause-and-consider practice before making key decisions. Even a brief pause can help you gain clarity, weigh options, and consider potential impacts. This reflection time helps you make better, more thoughtful decisions. It may help you avoid creating stressful situations.
